Senate Majority Leader Advocates for Telehealth Medicare Funding

He calls telehealth a “lifeline, not a luxury” for elderly and rural communities.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York called for the continuation of Medicare’s telehealth program, which is set to expire if not reauthorized by Congress by the end of the year. Senator Schumer called the program a “lifeline, not a luxury” for seniors in rural communities while giving a speech at the Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, New York, which serves as the only full-service hospital within 1,000 square miles.

“Whether you are in Binghamton or Hornell, telehealth helps improve accessibility, affordability, and makes our hospitals stronger by reducing wait times and making sure patients can get the care they need, and we have seen that right here in Wellsville,” said the majority leader. “It makes it so patients can receive timely care, even when they can’t physically make it to the doctor’s office.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Schumer as he prepares for the transition of party leadership.
  • For members of Congress as they consider extending funding for Medicare’s coverage of telehealth.
